Romancing the Stacks: The Way You Make Me Feel

Welcome to Romancing the Stacks. This is a series of reviews featuring one of my favorite genres: Romance Novels! Nothing is better than curling up with a good romance. This review will explore The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo.

I love Maurene Goo books, so when I saw this one on the shelf I had to read it. YA Romances are always a good read. They take you back to the youthful days of first kisses, first loves, and all the drama.

Summary:

Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn’t so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dads business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind? With Maurene Goo’s signature warmth and humor, The Way You Make Me Feel is a relatable story of falling in love and finding yourself in the places you’d never thought to look

Book Review:

I love this book. I love how Clara was a slacker. I love how the family was Korean, but migrated to Brazil and than migrated to the US. It shows that people come from all walks of life. I loved Clara and her relationship with her father. I loved the friendship that builds between Clara and Rose. I love Clara and Hamlet. I especially love how Hamlet says I love you to Clara, and she doesn’t say it back. They talk and she explains that she is just not there yet. That is such a great thing to include in a book. It is completely realistic that in relationship that two people might not be on the same page. It also makes sense that Clara is hesitant as her past relationships and her relationship with her mom cause her to be more cautious about love. In the past she tend to break it off if anything felt too real. Clara acknowledges that she is almost to that point, but still needs time. In any other book the couple would have broken up over such a difference. The relationship just felt so real and natural. Such a good and fun read. I did have a little issue with the mom. It was kind of obvious the dad was hiding how bad the mom was at being a parent and Clara kind of idolized her social influencer mom. At the end though, the mom did some kind of parenting, which was more than I expected. If you love YA romance, this is a great one to pick up.
