Meet the Staff Featuring Casey Babcock

Casey Babcock is a Specialist in the Adult & Teen Services Department of our Lockport Branch, and started in June of 2020. She earned her B.A. in English from Illinois State University, and is also a licensed educator.

What volunteer or professional associations are you involved in?
I am a member of the IEA teachers union, the National Council for Teachers of English, and Sigma Tau Delta

What are your top three favorite books of all time?
In no particular order: Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Who is your favorite author of all time?
Jane Austen for her wit and amazingly accurate analysis of society.

What books are on your to be read pile at home?
A Promised Land by Barack Obama, Mad and Bad: Real Heroines of the Regency by Bea Koch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 V. 1 by Christos Gage

What’s your favorite band?
Currently it is Of Monsters and Men.

Do you have any pets?
I have two dogs: an 8 year old Terrier mix named Mystery who is very sweet and calm, and a one year old Dalmatian named Scooby who is quite the rambunctious puppy. Bonus points if you can guess the theme we used for their names.

What’s your favorite thing about working at the Library?
I love meeting and talking with all of the different types of patrons that walk through our door. Helping them find a book that is just right for them.

What was your very first job?
My first job was working at my college’s dining center making quesadillas: do not recommend.

What’s your favorite food?
You can NEVER go wrong with tacos.

What’s your favorite color?
Green

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to watch obscure British television on my laptop.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was really little, I wanted to be Steve Irwin because he was just so kind to animals and got to go on all sorts of crazy adventures.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you travel, and why?
I would love to hit up Portland’s indie bookstore and cafe scene! Maybe do some hiking.

What is one cool fact about you?
I am a certified scuba diver.
