Meet the Staff Featuring Jamie Hasty

Jamie started at the White Oak Library District in December 2020. She’s a Children’s Services Specialist, and works at the Crest Hill. She went to Saint Xavier University, and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in English with a minor in Writing. Additionally, she graduated from the Harold Ramis Film School in 2018.

What volunteer or professional associations are you involved in? I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta.

What are your top three favorite books of all time?

Who is your favorite author of all time? Patrick Rothfuss (I guess)

What genres can our patrons quiz you about to find the best books to read? Fantasy and children’s books

What books are on your to be read pile at home? I just finished I’m Thinking of Ending Things, and I’m just about to start the Dark Archive. I’m waiting to get my hands on Flights of Marigold.

What’s your favorite band? The Used or Panic at the Disco. Or The Academy Is…

Do you have any pets? Just lost the best boy in the world, Duffy, a dark grey Schnauzer-Poodle mix, to old age and diabetes. He was the best boy.

What’s your favorite thing about working at the Library? Talking to kids about books and helping kids find books they want to read.

What was your very first job? Five Guys Burgers and Fries kitchen hand.

What’s your favorite food? Steak and potatoes and veggies.

What’s your favorite color? Purple

What do you like to do in your free time? Read books and play video games (Pokémon primarily).

Who is your personal hero, and why? My grandma. She shows me how to love myself and others the right way.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? A lot of famous comedians and writers would come talk when I was a student at Harold Ramis. I never really met them though.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A writer or an actress.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you travel, and why? Machu Picchu in Peru to meet the aliens.

What is one cool fact about you? I speak mediocre Spanish
