Teen Act of Kindness #2: How to Make the World a Better Place

2020 was a hard year, so we all need to do more Acts of Kindness. Did you help a sibling with school work, help your grandma with her new phone, or do something nice for someone? Brag about it in our Virtual Volunteering Form!

Today we are joined by an anonymous teen, sharing their Act of Kindness!

At 17 years old, I truthfully don’t know how I would make the world a better place right now with kindness for all. These past 12 months have turned everything I’ve known upside down. It’s such a crazy period in my teenage years that it’s difficult to imagine everything “back to normal” where we can focus on something other than COVID.

I do know that showing kindness in simple everyday things is one way to start to improve this world – in spite of the pandemic. Reaching out, texting a friend to see how they are doing, and listening, even if they aren’t quite “ok.” And wearing a mask, everywhere you go is another way to not only show kindness to others health concerns but also to show respect of their needs, too. Social distancing can also be viewed as a way of showing kindness and consideration, so I would encourage that as well.

I also think that the world would be a better place if money wasn’t such a big issue for many people. Too many are homeless or worry about how to put food on the table for their family. I worked at a Food Bank this weekend and saw how great the need is; a few bags of food made such a difference to these families. As we put the bags in the trunk, I felt so extremely grateful. Food and shelter are basic to surviving, and I think the world would be a better place if no one had to worry about where they would sleep at night or where their next meal was coming from.

In conclusion, I wish I knew how to make the world a better place. I don’t. I know that kindness in all the little things we do can help, along with making sure people have basic human needs met.
