Meet the Staff Featuring JoAnn McGloin

JoAnn started at the White Oak Library District in 2007. She is a Technical Services Specialist/Cataloger, and works at our Romeoville Branch. She went to Lockport Township High, Joliet Junior College, College of DuPage, and holds an LTA Certificate.

What volunteer or professional associations are you involved in? I’m a member of the Illinois Library Association, and I’ve been a member of the Lockport Moose since 1984.

What are your top three favorite books of all time? Shanna, Ashes in the Wind, and A Rose in Winter – all by Kathleen Woodiwiss

What genres can our patrons quiz you about to find the best books to read? Historical Romance

What books are on your to be read pile at home? Books about true crime and historical romance.

What’s your favorite band? The Beatles

What’s your favorite thing about working at the Library? Getting to see and touch all the books.

What was your very first job? I was a Maid at the Johnson & Wales Rhode Island Inn in Warwick, RI in 1978.

What’s your favorite food? Anything seafood

What’s your favorite color? Blue

What do you like to do in your free time? Read books and play the slots at the casinos.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? How did you meet them? Duke Ellington, Jr. – I cleaned his room while working at the Rhode Island Inn, he answered the door and introduced me to his wife and kids.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a teacher or a librarian.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you travel, and why? Egypt – I love ancient history!

What is one cool fact about you? I can shoot pool pretty good, and I love to go fishing!! (My father taught me both at a young age)
