Romancing the Stacks: Puppy Love
Welcome to Romancing the Stacks. This is a series of reviews featuring one of my favorite genres: Romance Novels! Nothing is better than curling up with a good romance. This review will explore Puppy Love by Lucy Gilmore.
I picked up this book because it has a puppy in the title, a puppy on the cover, and the summary had puppy in it. I have loved dogs ever since I was a little girl. I only recently got my first puppy ever and I love and adore. Whenever I can mix two things I love together, I do it. The only thing better than a romance is one that involves puppies. I think more should involve dogs. I have only read a few romances that feature dogs. I really had high hopes for this novel.

Book Review:
Puppies and romances are a perfect fit! I loved how the puppy was not just any puppy, but a service animal. I love learning about service animals and the functions they serve. I hadn’t realize that diabetics could use a service animal, but it makes sense. A dog could be trained to note if their person’s sugar level was low based on only smell.
Dogs are amazing. I enjoyed this book. I liked Harrison and Sophie as individuals and together. Sophie needed to gain more confidence in doing stuff on her own without outside interference from her family while Harrison needed to learn to be more approachable. They both grew into better people together.
Harrison brought out Sophie’s tough side and Sophie brought out Harrison’s sofe side – with a little help from Bubbles. The parts about Harrison’s backstory and his relationship with his mother weren’t my favorite. I felt that story needed more time to develop for me to fully accept what his mother did and what she currently expects from him. I enjoyed Harrison’s relationship with his father. Their back and forth was fun to read. I didn’t like the typical reason Harrison broke things off with Sophie.
Puppy Love was a typical romance novel reason that we always get. When you read as much romance as I do, you grow sick of the lame break-up excuses. I did appreciated that Bubbles was the main factor the two made up. Puppies definitely make up for lame romantic tropes. I might try more of this series as there are two sisters who work with organization who can also find love with puppies involved!
