Your Library Has Subscriptions to Resources to Help Kids Learn

With the new challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to our everyday lives, there are a plethora of new ways parents, teachers, caregivers, public libraries, etc. have investigated and implemented to help our students succeed. Most schools are 100% virtual for the first quarter of the 2020/2021 school year, and parents, teachers, and anyone else who works with students have come to White Oak Library District (WOLD) for assistance this school year, and we are thrilled to be a community resource! Since before this school year started, WOLD has been finding resources to offer our communities in these challenging times.

In addition to the materials we have in our libraries, WOLD also subscribes to a variety of online resources, “databases”, that will aid you in helping students succeed. We’ve added three new online subscription resources in the past two days that we’re excited to share with you!

Access these online resources from White Oak Library District’s website using one of the buttons below.

Scholastic's Back-to-School Activities & Worksheets

With something for children ages preschool to 8th grade, Scholastic Teachables is a one-stop shop for a myriad of educational resources. Providing over 25,000 printable activity sheets, lesson plans, and mini-books, Teachables has so much to offer you and your students. The website couldn’t be easier: you can search by subject, grade level, standard, keyword, type of resource, or theme.

Scholastic Teachables has everything from test prep to how to write book reports to printable mini-books on a wide variety of topics. For teachers, there is everything from clip art to classroom management resources, bulletin board ideas to calendars, forms to record sheets. If you’re ever caught late at night on February 13 without a Valentine for your child’s teacher, the database even has printable teacher Valentines (as well as goodbye cards for teachers to give their students on the last day of school).

Tumblebooks - J.V. Fletcher Library

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. They are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sounds, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book (and some classics) which you can read, or have read to you.The language drop-down menu allows you to view the site in French and Spanish, instead of English.

Tumblemath

TumbleMath is the most comprehensive collection of math picture books you will find anywhere. All in the amazing TumbleBook format complete with animation and narration. Educators have long known that one of the most effective ways to teach math concepts, especially to reluctant learners, is by using stories and literature. The books are accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans and quizzes. Quiz Portal contains thousands of quizzes created by math teachers specifically for your state standards.
