Welcome to Romancing the Stacks. This is a series of reviews featuring one of my favorite genres: Romance Novels! Nothing is better than curling up with a good romance. This review will explore Why Not Tonight by Susan Mallery.

This book is another third in a series, but I have been reading this series for a very long time. Happy Inc is a spin off of Susan Mallery’s other series Fool’s Gold which I have read almost of all of those books. Susan Mallery and I have a very complicated relationship. I read one of her books and it was so amazing that I read another only to be completely disappointed. It was a continuous pattern of reading one book that was great and reading another that was not. I keep repeating the pattern just because when she writes a good romance it is really good. I have read several of her books more than once. To get me to repeat read a book is a sign that it is a great read. I work at a library where I can get new books to read every day so when I choose to read a book more than once trust me when I say it is a good book. For the series so far I enjoyed You Say It First, but disliked Second Chance Girl, so based on my pattern I will say I will enjoy this book. I was a fan of the summary.

Summary:

Natalie Kaleta will do anything for the artists at her gallery, including risk life, limb and the effect of humidity on her naturally curly hair. Braving a downpour to check on reclusive Ronan Mitchell, Natalie gets stranded by a mudslide at his mountain home, where the brooding glass artist reveals his playful side, sending her inconvenient crush from under-the-radar to over-the-top.

After a secret tore apart his family and made him question his sense of self, Ronan fled his hometown for Happily Inc, but the sunny small town can’t fix his damaged heart. He won’t give in to his attraction for beautiful, perpetually cheerful Natalie. She’s untouched by darkness—or so he thinks.

Natalie knows that when a heart goes through the flame, it comes out stronger. Life may not be a fairy tale, but sometimes dreams do come true. Why not this one? Why not tonight?

Book Review:

The pattern continues. I truly adore this book. I do recommend reading this series in order as there is some character building for Ronan in the first two books. The first books set Ronan up as a guy who no longer knows who he is. He thought he was a twin brother to Mathais only to find out he is the son of a woman his father had an affair with. His “mother” took him in and raised him as a twin to her son of the same age. Ronan struggles with the only part of him he knows comes from his father, an amazing artist and a horrible human being. This book really shows Ronan in a new light as the other books just view him as a grump. Apparently all it takes is Natalie to show there is another sweet side to him. I enjoyed Natalie’s character. She was an optimist paper artist who always saw the bright side to things. For example when Ronan accidentally torches a piece she had been working on for a long time, she mourned the lost but used it as inspiration to make another piece. She even got Ronan to watch Frozen and admit he enjoyed it. I really enjoyed that tidbit. One tiny thing I did not like about the book is that Natalie had an app looking for a sperm donor before the romance started. Her reason for trying to have a baby was she wanted a family again as she was lonely. That is not a good reason to have a baby. Natalie was a struggling artist and just casually thinking about having a baby is insane. If she financially secure, and felt ready to be a single mom I would have been more accepting of this inclusion. Luckily once she and Ronan become a couple that mostly subsides despite a pregnancy scare. I think it was a strange inclusion, but doesn’t take away from the lovely romance. I did also hate how in this book all the previous couples are currently having babies. In Susan Mallery’s series, once the couples are together they immediately get married and have babies. I don’t mind knowing that other couples are having happy endings with a baby on the way, but I mind how every couple ends that way. It would be nice if someone was unsure about having a baby right now, someone wanted a baby but had trouble conceiving, someone wanted to wait to get married, someone is pregnant with serious issue with the baby ,or someone just eloped. I would like some variety. She has so many characters connected it would nice that when we check in with the previous couples that they are not all having the same happy ending. Besides my typical issues with her series, this was a great read. The characters were great and their romance felt natural.
