Album Review: Letlive. – Fake History

Rating: 9.5/10

With all the talk of “fake news” in today’s culture, it seems like the perfect time to check out Letlive’s sophomore album Fake History. This late 2000s post-punk album delivers 45 minutes of raw, defiant, and genre bending sound. Jason Aalon Butler, the bands explosive vocalist, takes your through an emotionally charged journey of coming up in the L.A. music scene. Tracks like H. Ledger, Renegade 86′, and Day 54, express the feelings of personal tragedy in an intense and primal manner. The album experiments with different sounds as in Muther, a downbeat ballad which manages to maintain the same level of emotion as in the fast paced tracks. Instrumentally, there is a unique raw production which showcases the exceptional bass work or Ryan Johnson. The combination of soul, punk, jazz, and metal, makes Fake History an album that should appeal to anyone interested in prog-metal/punk.
